Smirnoff Sorbet Light Pineapple Coconut

Recommended by Amy & Jason Buening: Gender Perspectives

Smirnoff has been a popular brand for regular and flavor-infused vodka over the years. Consumers have become accustomed to tasting many different fruit and dessert product lines from Smirnoff like raspberry, orange, or amaretto. However, now the company has introduced a new line of vodka that is still full-bodied in taste, yet low on calories as well.

Rehorst Vodka

Great Lakes Distillery

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

80 Proof

Recommended By: Dy Godsey, Mixologist

If I'm going for vodka-for-the-sake-of-vodka, I like Rehorst because of its undeniable quality and because I'm a locavore when it makes sense.”

Tasting Notes:

This spirit is amazing on the rocks. If you’re a vodka drinker, Rehorst should be your go-to brand. On the nose, Rehorst displays floral notes accented by a grassy sweetness. This sweetness translates well into the taste, reminding one of Springtime, as if fresh made bread is cooling on a windowsill of a prairie farm. With a heavier mouthfeel, Rehorst has a creamy quality that finishes clean and dry, yet has a subtle warming effect.

Tito's Handmade Vodka

Mockingbird Distillery

Austin, Texas

80 Proof

Recommended By: Monique Farah, Vodka Expert

“As one of the few vodkas made from yellow corn, Tito’s is distilled six times to create an incredibly clean profile with a slight lingering sweetness that dances on top of the tongue. Although it’s a full-flavored vodka, the bite is minimal and dissipates almost immediately.”

Tasting Notes:

Tito’s is micro-distilled in an old-fashioned pot still, similar to fine single malt Scotches and high-end French cognacs. This may require more skill, effort and time, but Tito’s believes it’s worth it. I chose this vodka not only because it’s perfect for mixing, but it’s also the most conducive vodka for infusions. Chiles, cucumber, garlic and strawberries—whatever you want to throw in the bottle will only be enriched by this vodka. The flavor is delicate enough that it won’t change the taste of whatever you choose to infuse it with, but bold enough to add a kick to your cocktail.

Chopin Potato Vodka

Chopin Distillery

Krzesk, Poland

80 Proof

Recommended By: Monique Farah, Vodka Expert

“Founded in 1992, Chopin has been one of the most dominant Polish potato vodkas on the market for the last 20 years. Crafted from potatoes grown only from select local farmers free of chemicals or pesticides, Chopin is four times distilled through a simple copper column still, and five times filtered. Chopin harvests late in the season to ensure a richer flavor from the high starch content. Due to the success of Chopin “Potato” the distillery also released a “wheat” and “rye” vodka to complete their exquisite portfolio.”

Tasting Notes:

I love Chopin because I consider it a “full circle vodka.” It starts off incredibly clean and then transitions into a slight earthy sweetness, before fading back to a clean finish. The earthiness is perfect for anything savory because it actually elongates the salty finish instead of working against it. Unlike most potato vodkas that tend to have a longer, grainier finish, Chopin finishes clean and light, which is optimal for most cocktails. The bite relinquishes your tongue after the initial sip, leaving you with a rich and delicious flavor. My favorite drink is “The Spicy Mojo” Chopin, which is a dirty Martini with a splash of Tabasco.
