a picture of Travis Hasse’s Cherry Pie Liqueur

This gem of a liqueur hales from Madison, WI, and is one of [currently] two pie liqueurs available from Travis Hasse - the other being his Apple Pie Liqueur. The Cherry Pie Liqueur is made with maraschino cherries and vanilla and it tastes as good as it sounds. The nose is of intense tart cherry. The flavor follows ... tart, sweet, and ever-so-slight hints of bitter ... with a thick, syrupy mouth that fairly accurately resembles cherry pie filling. Plus, you know, it can get you drunk. I’ve yet to have a pie that can do that! Travis Hasse’s Cherry Pie Liqueur: 1, Pies: 0.

Stirrings makes a large line of all-natural liqueurs including several great fruit liqueurs that would fit well in this article. But the one we had to go with was the peach liqueur. Both the nose and the taste are of ripe peach. The flavor is so spot-on that I could almost feel the soft, fuzzy texture of the peach skin on my lips as I sipped this. Long—and I mean long—after the swallow, I could still detect the sweet, mouth-watering flavor of peach.

Stirrings also makes an apple and a very intense pomegranate fruit liqueur, as well as an all-natural triple sec, ginger and espresso.

a picture of Crème Yvette

A staple in the world of classic cocktails, Crème Yvette has finally made it into Wisconsin. It first come to the US in 1890 and quickly gained popularity. There’s no wonder why, really, as Crème Yvette has a beautiful balance of berries, violet petals, honey and orange peel. The aroma is very alcohol-forward, but a distinct berry nose comes through. The taste is sweet with a well-rounded, slight bitterness from the orange peel. It is thick and syrupy on the palate, which only adds to the rich, bold flavor. The violet comes through in the finish as you exhale, and you’re left with a smooth, cool, lingering sweet berry aftertaste.

Crème Yvette is hand crafted in France and now owned by Cooper Spirits International, the same people who brought us St. Germain (you’ll learn more about that spirit this Spring). It’s perfect for any number of cocktails, including the Stratosphere, the Aviation and the Pousse Cafè, but we enjoy it just as well straight or over rocks.
