Smirnoff Sorbet Light Pineapple Coconut

Recommended by Amy & Jason Buening: Gender Perspectives

Smirnoff has been a popular brand for regular and flavor-infused vodka over the years. Consumers have become accustomed to tasting many different fruit and dessert product lines from Smirnoff like raspberry, orange, or amaretto. However, now the company has introduced a new line of vodka that is still full-bodied in taste, yet low on calories as well.

Demetrio Blanco Tequila
Tequila Selecto de Amatitan SA de CV | Jalisco, Mexico
40% ABV

Recommended By: Brian West, Alcoholmanac Magazine

One of the newest tequilas in the Milwaukee market, Demetrio immediately caught my eye. Their top shelf, premium quality tequilas have quickly become one of my favorites. It doesn’t hurt, either, that Demetrio is extremely active in a number of charity organizations, donating a portion of their profits from each bottle as well as regularly sponsoring events and fundraisers for charities across the US.

Tasting Notes:

Demetrio starts with a big poblano pepper nose, with notes of dry earth and clay. In many ways, it reminds me of the smell of a dry cave. The taste mirrors the aroma for the most part. A spicy pepper character is mingled with a minerality and pleasant, subtle vegetal characteristics. Demetrio finishes long and super smooth, its pleasant minerality and rounded root flavors lingering minutes after each sip. Demetrio, specifically the blanco, is a perfect example of terroir in tequila. One sip and you are instantly transported to the Mexican desert. Figuratively, of course. That would be weird, otherwise.

Cabo Wabo Tequila Blanco
Destiladora San Rancho | Jalisco, Mexico
40% ABV

When Sammy Hagar set out to make a world class tequila, I’m not sure anyone expected him to succeed at the level he did with Cabo Wabo. Originally made for Sammy’s cantina in Cabo San Lucas, it has taken the world by storm with its exceptional quality, expertly combining boldness and complexity with easy-drinking smoothness.

Tasting Notes:

The Cabo Wabo blanco is exceptionally fragrant, emitting a bouquet of fresh earth, salty minerality, melon sweetness, subtle fermented vegetables (like sauerkraut or kimchi) and black and green pepper. At first sip, Cabo blanco’s big, smooth, almost oily mouthfeel strikes hard with big black pepper that develops into an almost ancho chili flavor. This pepper is balanced by light grassy tones, an almost asparagus note, and pronounced sweet roasted agave. Cabo blanco finishes mild, but its flavors linger. As the pepper fades, some of the more roasty vegetable characters comes out. This is an iconic example of a good Lowland tequila.

Herradura Reposado Tequila
Casa Herradura | Jalisco, Mexico
40% ABV

Recommended By: Bryce Clark, Cempazuchi Comida Brava

Herradura makes fantastic tequilas from the more than 25 million Blue Weber agave plants grown in its lowland plantations. Its reposado offering is aged the maximum of 11 months in oak barrels, lending a rich, full, sweet and complex flavor profile. Recommended by one of Milwaukee’s top tequila experts, we’ll just let Bryce Clark of Cempazuchi wrap up the tasting notes.

“This is one versatile tequila. Aged 11 months in oak, with a nose of earthy agave, caramel, with hints of pepper and spices, it lends itself to be sipped and savored  all by itself. It’s rich, yet not overly oaky, letting the flavors of the caramel, cinnamon, light vanilla, and citrus shine through. It’s the perfect tequila when one wants to move up from a silver tequila, and give a margarita or other citrus based cocktail (like a Paloma ) an upgrade. This lowland reposado is the one I measure all other reposados against. Muy Delicioso!”
