a photo of Scallops at 4th BaseWhen you think West Milwaukee and Miller Park, I doubt you think of seafood and ordering from a place that has no menu. Stay with me here.

4th Base is located less than one mile from Miller Park and, if you were to drive by, you would assume it’s your traditional neighborhood bar and continue on. But you’d be missing out on one of Milwaukee’s restaurants that’s been surprising its patrons for over 25 years. They have no menu, just a deli case showcasing their seafood and steak options.

This is where the fun typically starts. Order a few drinks for the table and start talking to your server and tell them your cravings … really! If they have it, you can order it and have it seasoned, prepared and served any which way you’d like (be sure to ask about prices). An example of what we enjoyed was the blackened scallops (around $5 a scallop) with sautéed spinach. They were large, perfectly seasoned and blackened and easily cut in half with my fork—one of the best scallop dishes I’ve ever had!

The first was bacon-wrapped and stuffed with crab (around $5 per shrimp) and the second was their standard breaded shrimp. Both of these perfect creations were served with their house-made rice pilaf and, from first bite to last, you could tell his was no box mix. 4th Base also butterflies their jumbo shrimp, so if you’re thinking of those tiny shrimp some chain restaurants usually serve, you are way off. Give them a try!

Seeing as this is Wisconsin, we had to order something deep-fried. So, we happily took pleasure in eating the breaded calamari and mushrooms. Both were extremely crispy and served with sides of marinara sauce and cocktail sauce. Delicious!

They prepared a blackened Cajun tuna steak served with roasted peppers and cauliflower to round out the seafood adventure. Their Cajun seasoning is made in-house and adds a deep flavor to any of their fish specials, especially the tuna.

All that seafood gave us a sweet tooth and, once again, they had us covered. Their cheesecake, made from scratch and beautifully presented on our table, only lasted a few minutes. All I was thinking of was when I was coming back.

4th Base surprises in many aspects and, if you only remember one thing from this article, let it be this—they will deep fry or add bacon to anything you want. Enjoy your visit!
