Restaurants - Fish Frys

a picture of The Irish Pub's Fish FryThe Irish Pub on the southern end of Water Street is easy to miss, but that doesn’t mean you should forgive yourself too easily if you don’t stop in.

All of The Irish Pub’s food is homemade and it definitely comes through in the cooking. When it comes to The Irish Pub’s Famous Fish & Chips ($13) they use an eco-friendly North Atlantic Cod. As soon as the fish wrapped in paper hit our table, I noticed the sheer volume of fish and chips that came with each order — it was a mound of food and as we all know, the more food the better here in Wisconsin!

The fish is full of flavor and definitely doesn’t hold an overly fishy flavor. When their cod meets their Carlsberg beer batter, it turns out an incredibly crispy fish fry. Its seasoned perfectly and with each bite, the fish and batter don’t fall apart, which is one of my biggest pet peeves when enjoying a fish fry. Absolutely well-constructed and packed full a flavor, you might forget there’s a generous serving of chips waiting for you as well. Not to mention the rye bread, soft butter and curry slaw. Whether you are experiencing the perfectly-seasoned and crispy cod alone or pairing it with the homemade horseradish tartar sauce, you’ll have a smile on your face the entire time.

a picture of The Irish Pub's Wisconsin goes crazy for fish fries and even though I know it’s probably hard to believe, there are people out there that opt for something other than the customary Friday fish fry. Whether this person is you or your dining partner, don’t worry, The Irish Pub has enough options to guarantee that you’ll still get your fish and your partner will feast as well.

Milwaukee’s Largest Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($10) is a popular alternative and for good reason. Gone is the typical white bread that starts this sandwich. The Irish Pub grills a soft flat bread that, when bitten into, blends perfectly with soft American & Cheddar cheeses. Add the fried onions and soft tomatoes, and you have all the reasons to not only consider this Milwaukee’s largest grilled cheese, but also the best.

a picture of The Irish Pub's assorted SlidersSliders are quite popular now, so when I heard The Irish Pub was serving them I was excited, but not surprised. That was my first mistake. If you think these are your ordinary mini burgers that in the end lack excitement, you’re wrong. You get the choice of 4 sliders and all are $3 each – Reuben, Curry Fish, BBQ Sloppy Joe and a Leprechaun burger. The flavor of each — from an exceptional Reuben, to the freshness of a Curry fish, a flavor-packed sloppy Joe, to the perfectly-seasoned garlic and horseradish burger — will make it extremely difficult to just order one or two as a meal. But then again, I would suggest doing the real Wisconsin thing and order them all! You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!
