Ommegang Witte

Brewery Ommegang

Cooperstown, New York

5.2% ABV

Recommended By: Andy Guy, BeerFM.com

“The original witbiers were never brewed with coriander and orange peel like many are now. They were simple Belgian-brewed wheat beers and Witte is a return to the simplicity in the brewing process, allowing the yeast strain to add its own complexity.

A waft of bright citrus and sweet orange peel breaks through the tall white head, which rests on the hazy pale yellow beer—an appearance that mirrors the soft wheat and lemon oil nose. Strong coriander spice and faint yeast transition to flavor, while gently incorporating banana before the sparkling carbonation gets the tongue active. A clean finish and easy drinkability make this witbier one of our favorites!

White Belgian Style White Ale | As Featured in Volume 7, Issue 2 of Alcoholmanac Magazine

White Belgian Style White Ale

Lakefront Brewery

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

4.6% ABV

Recommended By: Andy Guy, BeerFM.com

“With its attractive warm glow, delicately spicy nose and smooth wheat finish, Lakefront's White is one of my go-to favorites for a refreshing witbier that's both easy drinking and full flavored for a great year-round beer. Next brunch, try this with Champagne for beautiful morning Mimosa! It has an aroma reminiscent of breakfast that emerges from the golden-hued beer.”

Lakefront’s White starts with soft sulfur tucked behind sharp coriander escaping the pale straw yellow beer. Lemon and orange peel offer bright citrus that carries from the nose to the flavor with forward spiciness. Supple Belgian yeast follows with an effervescent finish that lingers on the tongue with a bone-dry, refreshing quality.

Goose Island Beer Co
Chicago, IL

They Say: “Inspired by the city of Chicago and densely populated with flavor, 312’s spicy aroma of Cascade hops is followed by a crisp, fruity ale flavor delivered in a smooth, creamy body that's immensely refreshing.”

We Say: Goose Island’s flagship beer pours a hazy pale straw yellow with a small white head that captures the lemony citrus notes and grainy pale malt. Clean floral hop notes make their way from aroma to flavor and join a lemonade-like citrus bite that’s tart. Soft wheat flavor also makes the mouthfeel creamy and smooth while staying well-carbonated and extremely drinkable. This is what we call a summer slammer beer.

Bell’s Brewery, Inc
Comstock, MI

They Say: “Bell's Oberon is a wheat ale fermented with Bell's signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a classic summer beer.”

We Say: Pouring a faintly hazy golden yellow color with a well-formed white head, Bell's Oberon features a prominent lemon and lime zest citrus with a little orange peel, delicate banana esters, and light apricot. Hoppier flavors of citrus emerge with strong orange peel and playful wheat. The dry finish and faint hoppy bitterness begs for another sip as it quenches all kinds of thirst!
