![]() Brouwerij Het Anker Mechelen, Belgium They Say: “Thirty-eight years we had to miss the Christmas beer but in 2002 the tradition was restored with Gouden Carolus Christmas. It’s a strong, dark ruby red beer with character and contains an alcohol percentage of 10.5% VOL. Brewed in August, the beer rests a few months to reach an optimal balance. Three kinds of hops and six different kinds of herbs and spices define the rich taste of this Christmas beer. Top-class!” We Say: If you are looking for an insanely tasty, extremely complex and head-heavy beer, this one is for you. The toffee brown head floating atop the dark brown body emits wafts of sweet grape, sassafras, anise and even hints of wood. This beer is so well balanced, you could easily forget you’re drinking alcohol … that is, until the kick of 10.5% ABV hits you when you stand up. Sweet with heavy notes of anise and spice, it quickly dries out your mouth leaving a taste reminiscent of french toast covered in maple syrup. It’s thick, it’s awesome and it would be great to share around a roaring fire.
