Written by Chris Eckert

The premiere cocktail bar on the main drag of Water Street belongs to Bar Louie. Bar Louie offers a wide variety of cocktails and martinis, including the Louie’s Cosmo, the Diva and the Dirty. Their kitchen offers just the thing to fill you up all the way until bar close. The inside has a very modern and cozy atmosphere, with plenty of natural light. Both their bars also showcase a number of TVs for sporting events.

Fitzgibbons’ Pub PDF Print E-mail
Bars & Clubs - Downtown

Written by Chris Eckert

So, what if you don’t like partying? If those damn kids and their hip-hop aren’t your thing, stop at Fitzgibbons’ Pub. “We’re an adult bar on Water Street where people can go to not deal with younger crowds,” says owner Fitz. There is generally an older-than-college-aged crowd at the place, but it’s a friendly atmosphere. “It is what it is,” says Fitz. It’s home to the International Wall of Cash and Snatch, where foreign bills grace the bar wall … not sure about the snatch though. It’s a self-described classic Milwaukee tavern with an Irish pub feel to it.

While you’re there, try the Fitz-Wrecked. For $5, you get an Ed Fitzgerald porter and a shot of Old Fitz. I don’t know what that all means, but it’ll mess you up for $5! Although I had beer from a tapper that just read “BEER” on it, I wasn’t afraid. It’s a great place to be with a funny owner, excellent prices and good times. Fitzgibbons’ is definitely a hidden gem on Water Street.

BarNone PDF Print E-mail
Bars & Clubs - Downtown

Written by Chris Eckert

BarNone is one of the smaller bars on Water Street, sitting on the corner of Water and Juneau. A relative newcomer to Water Street (former site of The Guitar Bar), BarNone is a refreshing break from the typical college-geared bars dotting the street, offering more of a corner, neighborhood bar vibe. The modern industrial design makes perfect use of the available space, which is admittedly limited. Not much clutters the walls and halls of this small place, which helps to give it a more open feel. Milwaukee’s famous cream brick line the back wall, while the other walls are coated with a grayish hue that gives the bar a chill and cool feel to it. It’s a very simplistic design, but less is more in this case, because it makes for a very inviting atmosphere. BarNone is a quiet, cozy bar during the day, but it fills up with music and commotion at night with a nice sound system capable of playing whatever music you wish.

McGillycuddy’s Bar & Restaurant PDF Print E-mail
Bars & Clubs - Downtown

Written by Chris Eckert

At night, this place blows up as the party bar to be at. During the day and early evening, its excellent kitchen keeps people rolling in. Dan, the bar manager we spoke with, recommends their burgers, chicken sandwiches and wings (which are often on special on the right day). McGillycuddy’s offers two stories of partying, with the second floor offering some pool tables, wide open floors and a patio to get your drinking and fresh air on.

McGillycuddy’s isn’t afraid to keep the party going all night either. Dan tells us that McGillycuddy’s is one of the top 10 bars in the nation in Red Bull energy drink sales. There are a number of TVs in the place to watch any game you want, but the main feature of McGillycuddy’s is its food and party atmosphere. Pop your collars and wear that slutty outfit, because this is where you’re gonna party down.
