a picture of Hi-Hat GarageThe Hi-Hat Garage (more commonly referred to simply as ‘The Garage’) is located just off of Brady Street on North Arlington Place. The venue earns its title with the large garage door located at the front of the building that can be opened during Wisconsin’s warm weather months. For the months that aren’t so generous to us sunshine lovers, The Garage has worked to bring nature from the outside in. Lining the interior walls are real trees strung with white lights crawling from the floor up onto the ceiling, giving The Garage an ethereal feel. With great atmosphere, a fully-stocked bar, and an ample menu to boot, The Garage attracts everyone from the eclectic hippie to the business professional looking for a place to unwind.

a picture of Hi-Hat GarageOpen at 2 pm during the week and 10 am on the weekends, The Garage offers a variety of food and drink specials that are sure to keep the crowds filing in late into the evening. The daily happy hour takes place from 2 to 7 pm weekdays, where you’ll find a selection of discounted taps, rail drinks, glasses of wine and $5 appetizers. The Garage also features a $5 beer of the week served in a liter mug, making it a great deal and the perfect way to begin your night. If you’re the adventurous type, stop in anytime Sunday through Thursday and ask for the $1 mystery beer; you’ll be served a randomly selected can of beer in a paper bag (whatever they have available at the time, conveniently stuck in a paper bag to further pique your curiosity).

The menu here consists of an array of appetizers, sandwiches and burgers, salads and Friday fish fry (after all, we are in Wisconsin). The menu options are sure to satisfy both the average Joe and foodie alike, with uniquely notable menu items such as the Beef Satay appetizer, Sirloin Soba Spinach Salad, and The Knot burger (dressed with brie, apple slices, mayo and bacon). The brunch menu aims to quench the breakfast lover’s appetite with the hearty Lumberjack, which begins with a foundation of breakfast potatoes covered with sausage gravy, eggs and bacon, all of which are served with a side of toast. For the carb-lover, try the PBR pancakes (or pretzelcake version), made with Pabst Blue Ribbon beer batter, served with a side of eggs and sausage. If eggs and pancakes aren’t your thing, try a Cheese Burger, Classic Port (a grilled portabella), or BLT (the famous bacon, lettuce and tomato combination)—all of which can also be made up “breakfast style,” which adds at least one egg and complementary condiments.

a picture of Hi-Hat GarageEntertainment at The Garage begins at 9 pm on Sundays, where patrons can show off their karaoke skills (or lack thereof). Tuesday nights are Service Industry Night (SIN), where you’ll choose from a selection of half price top shelf liquor and microbrews, from 9 pm to bar close. Thursday’s Retro Night is led by The Enablers, bringing you tunes from the 80s and 90s. Pabst Tall Boys are featured at the retro price of $2, along with the $3.50 retro cocktail of the evening and $3 tall Smirnoff mixers. The bar picks up in the later evening and stays humming until close, making The Garage a sure choice for your happy hour delight or night out on the town.
